Actually, I went. Casey flaked. It was legitimately the most fun I’ve ever had at a pro game. The other 10,000 Asians in attendance [approximate] seemed to agree. Word had traveled fast.

On the way in, I saw Jeremy Lin jerseys out for sale. There were some guys who were being all sad-bro about Baron Davis’s latest medical delay, and I got into it a little with them—more about Baron’s merits than about anything else. We all sort of agreed Lin probably wouldn’t be the answer.

The Knicks’ recent past is rotten with young players who the hype train had to talk itself into. Wilson Chandler, David Lee, Nate Robinson, Channing Frye, even Gallinari at first—players who won you over with metrics or box scores or Kryptonite shoes, not crossovers and alley-oops and and-1s. Sometimes Landry Fields looks like he just came from high-school gym class. Iman Shumpert can’t dribble with his left hand. Mozgov is a verb now.

Lin looks different. Looks, because, well, it’s two games and regression is more likely than spontaneous evolution. But also because his game—after two games—looks like might maybe could-be translate into an honest to goodness starter’s skill set. Not “Oh he’d be a really good bench guy if we could just get a good team together.”

At the very least, he looks like a point guard. It’s been a while since fans could watch the Knicks play with a point guard. Early on, the crowd was buzzing, but it felt like the excitement around a sideshow. The guy next to me had brought his kid, maybe six years old, with him. By the second quarter, all he wanted to talk about was Lin. “That’s my next jersey right there,” he said. “One, seven.” And: “I like this kid. You know he went to Harvard? That’s smart right there, doesn’t need basketball.”

Smart kid, went to Harvard—obviously, Lin’s being Asian is a significant part of what makes him a curiosity. Asians in the crowd were high-fiving random other Asians: “That boy’s the truth.” “Chi-NEESE starting point guard!” Yet Lin doesn’t seem to be caught in the scrappy-white-guy sinkhole. People talk about their fascination, but still talk about him as a basketball player.

The best possessions were the ones where he’d start with his crossover sequence well outside the three-point line. You could feel everyone waiting to go OOOHHHH. About halfway through the third, he crossed over off a screen and split the defense, and the crowd went totally nuts. It always looks awkward; he pushes the ball ahead of his body and just squirts through. No one really cared when he made a few turnovers that way.

My GroupMe feed was going nuts with exclamation points, but because I have a way of getting stuck staring at my phone during the most exciting plays of games, I was trying to ignore it as much as possible. The Garden lost its shit on his late and-one, and lost it again when he drained the three to close out the game.

After the buzzer, I went to hang out by the table of jerseys, to watch the rush on No. 17. One woman looking for a Lin shirt saw me there and asked if I was his publicist. Little white girls were running up to buy them; so were two middle-aged black women. A giddy Asian dude, accompanied by his girlfriend, bought the last one. They’d sold out within 10 minutes.

“The court, as I understand it today, struck down a law that said marriage is between a man and a woman. It’s interesting that there are some courts in America where the judges have become so wise in their own eyes that they know better than nature or nature’s God,” Gohmert said on the House floor.

“Nature seemed to like the idea of an egg and a sperm coming together because of pro-creation,” he continued. Drawing a parallel to Iowa Supreme Court justices who ruled in favor of same-sex marriage in 2009, he said, “Apparently they thought the sperm had far better use some other way biologically, combining it with something else.”

Gohmert warned that the California judges who shot down Proposition 8 could face the same fate as some of those Iowa Supreme Court justices. Three of them lost their seats when they came up for reelection a year later, something that hadn’t happened in Iowa in more than 40 years. In that case, angry voters retaliated after the same-sex marriage ruling and told the justices they were “not smart enough to figure out actual plumbing,” said the Texas Republican.

Many state Supreme Court justices — including those in California — can be voted off the bench. But federal judges, such as those on the 9th Circuit who ruled on Proposition 8 on Tuesday, are lifetime judges.

Gohmert was one of a handful of House Republicans who made remarks about marriage, in part in response to the Prop 8 ruling and in part because, as it turns out, this week is National Marriage Week. Rep. Alan Nunnelee (R-Miss.) talked about his wife of 30 years and what he said she has taught him: That people shouldn’t act on same-sex attractions.

“One of the things that I’ve learned from her that applies to National Marriage Week, I’ve heard her say time and time again: Love’s not a feeling, it’s an action,” Nunnelee said. “You can’t help how you feel about something. You can help how you act.

Latest update Whale Shark Found by Pakistani Fishermen;

Mehmood Khan, the owner of the Charai Fishery, said that the whale shark was found 10 days ago about 100 miles from his fishery. After dragging the giant shark back to land, Khan attempted to lift it out of the water with two cranes. The two cranes failed to lift the shark and Khan had to call in three more cranes to get the job done.

Hollywood’s acting guild spread awards across the television and film spectrum and gave The Help a boost in the acting categories for the Oscars, which will be handed out Feb. 26.

Octavia Spencer took best supporting actress, but co-star Viola Davis may have been the night’s biggest winner. She was named best movie actress and spoke for the cast of The Help when it collected its best-ensemble award.

“We had such great expectations” coming in to adapt the best-selling book, Davis said.

Dujardin credits his success to daydreaming. “My teachers called me ‘John of the moon.’ I realized I never stopped dreaming. Thank you for this dream.

Modern Family took its second SAG Award for best TV comedy.

30 Rock’s Alec Baldwin won for actor in a comedy series, calling the award proof that “obviously you people love Tina (Fey’s) writing.” Winning for the second straight year, Betty White took best actress in a comedy for Hot in Cleveland.

Jessica Lange, winner of best female actor in a drama series for American Horror Story, seemed surprised by the honor. “To be an actor means everything to me,” she said.

Steve Buscemi claimed honors as outstanding male actor in a drama series for Boardwalk Empire, his second straight win. His show also took best dramatic series for the second consecutive year.

“Please stop yelling at me on the street,” he joked of the reaction he occasionally gets to his character, gangster Nucky Thompson.

Christopher Plummer started the night off by picking up best supporting actor for Beginners, about a man with cancer who acknowledges his homosexuality.

The Artist, which has been winning big at earlier awards, notched a critical trophy Saturday by taking top directing honors for Michel Hazanavicius at the Directors Guild of America Awards. Since 1948, only six directors who won the DGA’s top prize did not go on to win a best-director Oscar.

Junior Ben Simons had a career-high 29 points, and sophomore Rayvonte Rice recorded his second consecutive double-double and nearly missed the first triple-double in school history.

It was the first win out of four triple-overtime games in Drake history. The Bulldogs (13-9, 6-5 MVC) dealt the Shockers (18-4, 9-2) their first road loss of the season.

With 13 seconds remaining in the second half and Wichita State clinging to a 63-61 lead, Rice rebounded a missed free throw and made an outlet pass to Simons. Simons drove to the hoop and missed a contested layup, but senior Kraidon Woods followed with a put-back bucket to tie the game with two seconds left.

Rice, who had 19 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists, stole the inbounds pass, and his 85-foot heave at the buzzer bounced off the rim, drawing a loud gasp from the crowd of 4,895.

Drake did not convert a field goal in the first overtime, but scored all seven of its points in the period at the free throw line. With the game tied at 70, Rice had another chance to win the game, but his long trey from the top of the key rimmed out.

The Bulldogs coughed up two six-point leads in the second overtime, but the Bulldogs rode Rice and senior Kurt Alexander. Alexander drilled a 3-pointer to put Drake up three with 18 seconds left, but Wichita State’s Ben Smith answered with a trey 10 seconds later to send the game to a third overtime.

Alexander continued to be a pivotal force, scoring six of Drake’s 11 points in the final overtime. Alexander finished with 17 points.

“Our team kept responding in a really exciting, intense, passionate and tough game,” head coach Mark Phelps said. “(Our guys) demonstrated toughness. They continued to respond, they were resilient. Everybody contributed.”

Simons played a team-high 53 minutes and was 11-of-22 from the field. He knocked down three shots from beyond the arc.

Redshirt freshman Jeremy Jeffers played 48 minutes and added 11 points. Woods had seven points, eight rebounds and four blocks.

With the win, Drake remains in a three-way tie for third place in the MVC. The Bulldogs are tied with Illinois State (14-8, 6-5) and Missouri State (13-10, 6-5). Drake defeated the Redbirds 77-60 at the Knapp Center on Jan. 5. The Bulldogs lost at Missouri State 72-61 on Dec. 31, but they get another shot at the Bears this Saturday at the Knapp Center. Drake travels to Illinois State on Feb. 8.

Creighton (20-2, 10-1) moves ahead of Wichita State for sole possession of first place in the MVC.

“That’s a top 25 basketball team. That’s a Sweet 16 type of basketball team that we were able to get by (Saturday night),” Phelps said about Wichita State. “It’s not surprising; it’s welcomed that we’re starting to put it together more consistently.”

Drake battled No. 14 Creighton last Wednesday night, but the Bluejays proved too much for the Bulldogs, as Drake dropped a 77-69 decision.

Sophomore Doug McDermott, considered by many to be the top candidate for the Larry Bird Player of the Year award in the MVC, scored 30 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Rice had 23 points and 11 rebounds for Drake. Simons added 18 points while Alexander contributed 16.

The Bulldogs fought back from a 15-point deficit in the second half to get as close as four, but Creighton withstood the rally.

Drake travels to Terre Haute, Ind., to take on Indiana State this Wednesday at 7 p.m. Tip-off for Saturday’s game against Missouri State is at 7:05 p.m.

On the sitcom side, Alec Baldwin took home his fifth statue for his work on “30 Rock,” his sixth SAG award overall. Betty White took home her second Actor for TV Land’s “Hot In Cleveland.” And the cast of “Modern Family” won for comedy ensemble for the second year in a row.

On the more serious side of the small screen, “Boardwalk Empire” reigned. Steve Buscemi took home the award again for the HBO drama, while the show itself was honored for drama ensemble. “American Horror Story” Jessica Lange beat out SAG veterans Julianna Margulies, Glenn Close, Kathy Bates and Kyra Sedgwick for the drama series actor trophy. Kate Winslet was honored for her work in HBO’s “Mildred Pierce” and Paul Giamatti took home the statue for “Too Big to Fail.
